Explore the Gap Blocking Your Goals

There is a famous quote by Napoleon Hill that says

"What the mind can conceive and believe, the mind can achieve."

If you consider that quote to be true, it’s safe to say that the ideas, goals and dreams you have can be achieve.

Most people know what they want and they are aware of their talents, skills and abilities. However, often times there is a big gap between knowing what they would like to achieve and actually getting to that achievement.

It's time to explore that gap. So, what's in your gap?

During a workshop I held recently, the participants shared many problems and obstacles that create the gap between where they are to where they want to be. While on the surface they may seem like problems and obstacles one can do nothing about, however, they can be overcome.

No matter what your gap consists of, the way to get through to your goal is to explore the gap and work towards resolving each problem one step at a time. You can overcome every block in the way.

Constantly remind yourself that you have the potential to succeed.

We all have different problems. While you are working to resolve your specific problem it’s important that you make sure to never lose sight of your goal no matter what is going on.

You must visualize your goal everyday! To help you visualize, write down your goals or dreams and review them twice daily. Make a vision board or look into some different visualization methods. The more you visualize your dreams and goals, not only will it help you to stay focused on the result you desire, you will see that gap get smaller and smaller until it is gone!

"Review your goals twice everyday in order to be focused on achieving them" – Les Brown

"Visualize this thing that you want, see it, feel it, believe in it. Make a mental blue print, and begin to build." -- Robert Collier

Conquer 3 Important Things to Achieve Your Goals Now

Do you ever have the urge?

It is a constant feeling inside of you that makes you feel you should be doing something more with your life or making a living in a different way or just simply having more success.

If so, you are not alone.

Many people feel that there's got to be more to life or realize that they are meant to do something else.

Gratitude

If you fit this description, the first thing to do is to be grateful for where you are right now. Worrying and complaining about where you are in life, will keep you right where you don't want to be.

You must start from a place of gratitude.

Studies suggest that a positive, appreciative attitude contributes to greater success in work, better health, peak performance in sports and business. It also contributes to a higher sense of well-being, and a faster rate of recovery from health issues. When you are grateful for what you have, you will attract more to be grateful for.

Clarity:

Decide What You Want The second thing to do is to decide. Decide how important it is for you to go after your own goals and dreams. Some people are comfortable and content with working for someone else and helping them build a successful company. They are content with receiving a pay check every week or two in exchange for their knowledge and skills.

It’s commendable to make a living for yourself and your family while doing work you love. If you feel you should be doing something more, I want you to know that you absolutely can!

You also have to decide how much work you're willing to put into accomplishing your own dreams and goals, especially, if you find yourself working a full-time job. You have to be creative with the time you have available and devote it to creating your own success.

Strengthen Your Belief

The third thing you will want to do to nurse that desire inside is to use your faith. Faith is a very powerful quality. When you believe and trust in something so strongly it develops into knowing.

There is a certain peacefulness and calmness in knowing what you know. I have noticed that people who have strong faith are not easily swayed by any negativity or obstacles that come their way. This is why having strong faith is so important when thriving to have a successful life.

Every single one of us has the potential inside to live the kind of life that we desire. Take a good look at your life, be grateful for what you have, decide what you want, and take a leap of faith.

It may not be easy to be grateful, stand by your decision and believe in yourself, but it is vital to achieve success.

Don't Lose Sight of Your Personal Dreams and Goals

I’ve worked for someone else for over 30 years of my life in a full-time capacity. That’s a long time to invest in something other than the dreams and goals I have for myself. However, working for a company or someone else's business is not an uncommon thing. Being able to provide for yourself and your family is absolutely necessary and its great when you can do that while working in a nice, comfortable and drama free environment. If you are happy and satisfied with what you are doing to earn a living, that’s wonderful!

In my experience, most people are not satisfied with their day jobs and we become comfortable with helping someone else achieve their career goals, while we allow them to give us just enough money and benefits to keep helping them to succeed. Therefore, we can get so preoccupied with working a day job that it distracts us from pursuing our personal dreams and goals.

One thing you must realize and stay constantly aware of is that you have the potential within to be successful and live the life of your dreams.

Here are 3 tips to help you get started with accomplishing your dreams and goals while working a day job.

  1. Purchase a Journal. Writing down your dreams and goals is a great first step to make toward achievement. It helps you to see what it is you intend to accomplish. When you review your dreams and goals daily it provides a certain level of focus and motivation for you to keep moving forward.

  2. Utilize Social Media. This is another wonderful action step to take towards your dreams and goals. Being on Social Media, gives you an opportunity to learn everything you need to in your desired interest. You are also able to connect with like-minded individuals to learn from or to acquire potential clients. Conducting your business online can be done in the comfort of your own home or anywhere you can connect.

  3. Hire a Success Coach. Being a coach myself, I can say that this is the most important tip to getting your dreams and goals accomplished. I, personally, accomplish so much more when I am working together with my coach. I love the support, new ideas and strategies that I did not know that help me expand my thinking. It helps me through obstacles that may block my accomplishment at the time.
We all have different responsibilities and circumstances and some are more challenging than others. If you have a deep desire and belief that there is something more you must do in life, know that it is possible. There is truth to the old saying, "Where there is a will, there is a way."

We Succeed at Everything We ‘Do’

What have you succeeded at doing lately?

We all have different ways of how we define success for ourselves. The dictionary says success is the favorable or prosperous termination of attempts or endeavors. Many years ago I learned that we all have the potential inside to be as successful as we want to be. That message has become my mantra. I have made it my mission to help others realize this point as well.

Most people are not aware of the wonderful potential they have within to be successful. Recently, I was speaking to a friend of mine about success and she said

"actually, we succeed at everything we do."

I thought that was an interesting idea about success. She was right! I have a goal that I've talked about accomplishing for a whole year. In my mind, I simply have not accomplished it yet.

The more I thought about it, I realized that I had succeeded at talking about and making people aware of my goal. I didn't take any specific action directly related with doing exactly what I intended to do.

The only action I took was talking about it! Wow!

I'm grateful that I am in the company of people who I can have uplifting conversations and positive talks about success with. You can be so easily taken off track while in pursuit of your dreams and goals. Thinking about and talking about your dreams and goals are definitely a first step.

However, to actually achieve them, you must take action. Taking action is the key to your success.

Many years ago, Jazz musician, Herbie Hancock mentioned on a television program,

"...as soon as people latch on to something where people will say hey that's really good, then they want to stay there because that's security, that's acceptance and they feel comfortable...they don't want to move outside of their comfort zone, but the hip stuff is outside of the comfort zone."

The life of your dreams, the "hip stuff" is waiting right outside of your comfort zone.

You can become very comfortable with thinking and talking about your goals. It's time to jump out of your comfort zone and take action to achieve your dreams and goals now!

Goal Setting: What Do You HAVE To Do?

Are you spending most of your day doing what you want to do?
Or, what you have to do?

Wouldn’t it be nice to do what you want to do with the majority of your day?

Are you working in the career of your dreams?

Are you living where you want to live?

Do you spend most of your day around people you want to be around?

For many of us the answer to any or all of these questions is NO. We are not quite where we want to be, and doing what we want to do in life.

You may be familiar with the saying “Do what you have to do until you can do what you want to do.” This is a very nice quote. However, when I have said this to myself or someone else, it's usually because we are doing something we do not want to be doing.

The most important part of this quote is the “doing what you have to do” part.

Ask yourself: What do I “have” to do in order to “do what I want to do?”

Do you just put up with working a job you don’t really like? Or, living in a place you’re unhappy with? Do you settle with being around people who devalue you in some way?

Absolutely Not!

You are powerful beyond measure! You are valuable! You are a winner! You can accomplish whatever it is you set out to accomplish!

You have tremendous potential within to be as successful as you want to be! Here are 3 small action steps to take to insure that you will “have” what you want.
  1. Create a real list of the things you want. It’s important to first get your goals out of your head so you can see them, even if it’s first on paper.
  2. Write down and estimate when you would like to complete each item on your list. Doing this will help you to stay focused and on your intended result. A goal without a due date is a wishlist. The timeline is your gauge. If you don’t reach your goal is not reached in this time period, it’s to revise your approach or acknowledge if you have to learn more to reach your goal.
  3. Get Help and Support. Having an accountability partner, mentor or coach will help you to create a plan of action, stay on track and stay motivated.
These three steps will help you continue to move forward. Remember as long as you are going forward you will reach your destination.

Are You Conscious?

Are You Conscious of Your Words, Thoughts and Actions?

Based on the Law of Cause and Effect, the effects or outcomes you receive are a result of the causes you make. Similarly, what you sow you will reap. When you are striving to achieve your goals, it’s important to be conscious of how you are going about creating the success you seek.

There are some people who, after completing one task toward a goal they are working on, gave up after the outcome wasn't what they expected. They say things like "I just can't do it" or "I guess it's not for me to have." If you are taking specific action every day to accomplish a goal and you feel that nothing is happening, it’s very possible that the thoughts you think and the words you speak are not in alignment with your actions.

I was watching one of the singing competition shows on Television recently. I heard a contestant say "I want to at least make it to the top 5." I thought to myself, wow, for whatever reason, this person has already decided that they are not going to win even though the purpose of the show is to select one winner of the competition. While the great vocal ability of this person seem to display one who could win, their words got them very close to where they said they wanted to be. Your success depends solely on you and the choices you make.

There are a lot of factors that go into getting you from where you are now to where you want to be. Being conscious of your words, thoughts and actions are extremely important factors towards your success.

"Formulate and stamp indelibly on your mind a mental picture of yourself as succeeding. Hold this picture tenaciously. Never permit it to fade. Your mind will seek to develop the picture." -- Norman Vincent Peale

“Plan your work and work your plan. Decide in advance exactly how you are going to get from where you are to where you want to go.” – Brian Tracy

Moving from Freeze to Forward

Are you tired of being stuck in trying to grow your own business? Or wondering how to get out of a job that now feels more like a trap than a career? You're not alone. Just about every business person hits a plateau or sticking point at one time or another, if not several times, over the years.

When this happens it is our sign that it is time for a change. In life sometimes, we feel like we will just work a job temporarily, then life happens. We create families, life’s unexpected situations happen and all the while, time continues to go on. Now we are many years past our intended time to be living the life of our dreams and we feel stagnant. We think about that goal or dream we used to have but now feel lost on how to get there.

In this freeze mode we listen to motivational and spiritual teachers that inspire us in that moment. However, the moment often translates into more confusion on how to accomplish our dream or fizzles under the fear of uprooting the life we have built and not meeting our responsibilities.
In this mental place we may just give up, feel too old or think that the time has passed for us to experience our dreams. Here, is where we stop and don’t take action. However we still feel the desire. Know that having that desire, no matter how small, is enough. You can start taking action right now based on that small desire.

In this moment what you need is something like a personal fitness trainer that knows and understands your current condition then guides you along. All it takes is the willingness to look – seek and ye shall find….”knock and the door will be open.” One way to start knocking is to start researching. The same way you focus your search efforts for that gift your children want or that item you saw on TV that you’ve been wanting for a while, that’s the way you should search when it comes to your dreams and goals. In this age of the Internet we can find ANYTHING with the right keywords, focus and time. Look for information to learn more about what you want to accomplish.

This is a gentle way to start moving toward your dreams. This process doesn’t threaten your current stable life. You are only looking for examples. Want to be a singer and you are not twenty? Look up the singers that made it to the television program "The Voice." Many of them are well over twenty and living their dreams. Find out their story, where are they performing, or what motivates them. Maybe you want to be a painter? What are the artists in your area doing? Where are they hanging out? Where are they showing their work? Doing research helps to move you forward in the right direction.

ANY dream you have, there is a way to accomplish it that is right for you. Get started today researching and writing down anything that sounds interesting. This is the first step. When you have an idea, you first move your energy and place your attention on that idea. This practice brings you more ways to find what you are looking for and get you closer to your dreams.

4 Steps for Increasing Productivity

It’s so easy to get distracted while in pursuit of an important goal. It seems that while every step ahead may get you closer to your destination, it also presents you with turning points, junctures, and new paths of “opportunity” (which are often distractions in disguise).

Therefore, if you don’t keep your goals in the forefront of your mind and take discernible steps towards them, then invariably something shiny and alluring will knock you off track.

However, there are steps for increasing productivity. To eliminate the ‘shiny object’ syndrome, try these 4 easy strategies to keep moving in the right direction:
  1. Write down your goals.
We all have heard this…but do we do it? Studies show that by writing your goals down, your chances of success increase exponentially. Putting your goals in writing makes them tangible and reminds you of what you are working toward. Place them where you can see them such as around your computer monitor, on your bathroom mirror, or on your personal altar.

  2. Align your daily choices with your goals.
Every day, pick one of your goals, and choose 3 things you can do that day to move toward your chosen destination. Put those three things on your “to-do” list, and don’t go to bed until you’ve accomplished them.

  3. Share your goals with someone you trust.
Create accountability with those closest to you by simply sharing your goals, so when you start to veer off track, they can help you through. This process is a mutual beneficial activity because you are keeping each other focused on your stated goals. An additional benefit of this accountability practice is that it can keep situations in perspective.

  4. Set milestones of success.
Nothing is more frustrating than feeling like you are not making enough progress towards accomplishing a big goal. Set milestones of success where you can stop, celebrate and reward yourself for your accomplishments. But don’t sit for too long – get started again soon to keep up your momentum.
Every day, everything that you do is either moving you toward or away from your goals. Don’t let temptations, frustrations or the feeling of immediate gratification keep you from achieving what matters most to you. Keeping your goals in the front of your mind will allow you to make the decisions that bring you to the success you desire.

What steps will YOU take for increasing your productivity today?
Post your answer in the comment section below.

The World Needs You

There’s an old story about jazz great, Miles Davis. It’s said that when he was first starting out as a young man in the NYC jazz clubs, he loved the way that Charlie Parker played…so he imitated him.

One night during a jam session, one of the players said, “Hey Miles, you’re playin’ real good, man! You sound a lot like Bird (Charlie Parker).” Miles was flattered, then the player went on, “We want to hear YOUR thing, though. Bird’s got Bird’s thing covered. What’s yours?”

From that experience, Miles Davis embraced his true self and his individual talent and went on to have a long, illustrious career, largely defined by his unique sound.

Much like Miles, it is important that you find your unique voice instead of molding to what others think you should be, conforming to societal norms, or playing small because of the criticism of others.  You shine brightest when you embrace our unique gifts, talents, passions and interests…and the world needs you to shine.

You are truly a unique being.  From the billions of others who have walked this planet, there is not and will not be another like you.  You are unique, you are extraordinary, and you are here for a purpose.  And there are NO mistakes.

Recognize the value you have and do something about it! What are you good at? What do others say you are good at?  Make a list of what you enjoy doing. Look for people who are in need of what you can offer.

“If you want to be truly successful invest in yourself to get the knowledge you need to find your unique factor. When you find it and focus on it and persevere your success will blossom.” -- Sydney Madwed

“No matter what age you are, or what your circumstances might be, you are special, and you still have something unique to offer. Your life, because of who you are, has meaning.” – Barbara de Angelis

Now is the Time to Achieve Your Goals

Let’s get straight to the point…we all have a finite amount of time on this planet. One day our work will be done here on earth, and no one has a crystal ball to notify us when exactly that day will come.

Knowing that, what are you going to do with the remaining, rare and precious moments you have?

You have the potential inside of you to achieve your hopes, dreams, goals and desires. When are you going to tap into and activate that potential to have the success you desire? Later, when you’re older and more tired? Now is the time to achieve your goals.

Of course, there are a million reasons why you shouldn’t…you have errands to run, bills to pay, work to do, and people to care for. Guess what…that never stops. Life does not stop for you to achieve your goals. Living well is accomplishing your goals despite the life events that will inevitably happen.

Right NOW is the only time that you can count on. Right now, you have the fire. Right now, you have breath to breathe. Right now, you have an interest and desire that is needed to fuel your actions to achieve your goals. Right now is the only reality you know. The future is an illusion, and the past is a memory. So do yourself (and everyone else) a favor and get moving on those dreams TODAY.

When you accomplish your goals, you serve the world simultaneously. You demonstrate what is possible when you put forth maximum effort. You also can bring recognition to the industry. Sometimes your work helps others learn an option they did not know existed.

Steve Jobs co-founder and visionary of Apple Computer said it best when he said, “Your time is limited, so don't waste it living someone else's life. Don't be trapped by dogma - which is living with the results of other people's thinking. Don't let the noise of other's opinions drown out your own inner voice. And, most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary.”

Today is your day. Now is your time. Don’t look back 5, 10, 20 years from now regretting that you waited so long to go after something that mattered - or worse yet…that you didn’t even try.

Are you ready to achieve your goals? Do you know what you want to do but you don’t know where to get started? Join me Thursday, Jan. 8th at 1:00PM EST when I share 6 steps to help you reach your goals in my free teleclass. Register for the class by filling out the form to the right of this article.

What will YOU Do NOW?
